Purpose of the application

Purpose statement

The purpose of the komunalka application is to help people in Ukraine keep personal records of communal utility meter readings and estimated costs (electricity, gas, water, heating, and similar services).

komunalka is a personal utility-tracking Android app. Users enter meter readings, view history and simple analytics, manage multiple addresses, and may optionally back up their data to their own Google Drive App Data using Google Sign-In.

komunalka is not a payment service and does not submit readings to utility providers automatically.

What users can do with komunalka

  • Create and switch between home addresses in Ukraine
  • Add utility services (electricity, gas, water, heating, and others)
  • Enter previous and current meter readings and calculate estimated amounts
  • Review reading history and spending charts
  • Use regional tariff hints or set tariffs manually
  • Optionally sign in with Google to sync a backup file to Google Drive App Data
  • Export personal records to an Excel (.xls) file

How komunalka uses Google APIs

This section explains why komunalka requests Google Sign-In and Google Drive App Data access.

  • Google Sign-In: identifies the user so komunalka can open their Google account for optional backup.
  • Google Drive App Data scope: stores one encrypted-at-rest backup file (komunalka-backup.json) in the user’s private App Data folder so addresses, services, and readings can be restored on another device.
  • Backup is optional. Without Google Sign-In, all data stays only on the device.
